The interior of my home is lacking; where do I start?
Working on your house, regardless of the reason behind it, is dependent upon careful planning and consideration of all the many variables that can make a person adore their house and regard it as their home. If you do it right, it will greatly increase the resale value of your home without costing you an arm and a leg. Good designing and careful building will keep your project under control.
I want to expand my bedroom; can this be done?
We start and end our day in the bedroom. Your bedroom should be the most relaxing room in your home. Accessories, lighting, flooring, walls and your color palette should conspire together to bring you sweet dreams.
If you have a small, uncomfortable bedroom, you are likely to want a bedroom remodel. It’s a good idea to plan your use of your space carefully. You may think you are just remodeling a bedroom, but it could be that the room will be for more than just sleeping. Will you ever use it as an office or a den? You can determine what you need by thinking about how you plan to use the area.
The first thing you should do is decide how you will use the space. Next, think about the ambiance. Will you want special lighting, a fireplace, unusual trim and/or molding? Once you have these thoughts in mind, make a plan that will use all of your space well.
I already have a livingroom, should I invest in a family room?
Your home is where you reside and where you have your loved ones all around you; for many families, the family room is the most important room in the house! This area is truly relaxing and a great place for entertaining, dining, relaxing with friends or having family time.
Your space will be functional and fulfill your needs if good design planning takes place. Family rooms and recreational rooms can be fashionable, and also provide areas where every member of the family can find activities in which to participate. Your flooring should be nice to walk on in your bare feet and should not pose any hazards to children playing on it. Your seating should have a focal point such as a fireplace or entertainment center. Your furniture arrangement should make the room comfortable for your family.
What are the benefits of a finished basement?
The good things about having a finished basement are many. Realtor’s say that the 3 renovations that most increase the value of a home are kitchen, bathroom and basement. When you remodel your basement professionally, you can expect an increase in resale value of 20 to 115 percent. Just remember that this only applies to basements that have been refinished professionally. If not done professionally, a finished basement can detract from the value of a home.
When you move something into the basement (e.g. playroom, home office, entertainment center, family room) you will find you have more space in the main part of the house for a bigger kitchen or a guest room or some other bigger and better improvement that you hadn’t thought of before. Naturally, if your home is not presently set up to have an extra family room or office, such a room can be added in your basement for a very reasonable price.
The entire house can be quieter and stress free if you put an entertainment center, exercise room, game room, or other activity room in your home. On the other hand, a den, sauna or whirlpool can be built into the basement of a home in order to provide a peaceful place in which to relax from daily routine and mundane tasks.
